HERE’S MY STORY…
BECOMING A THERAPIST WAS LIFE-CHANGING
As just another human being walking this earth, I have been through my own stuff. My tough times have helped me become a relatable, empathetic, no bulls**t therapist who “gets it.”
Becoming a therapist taught me a lot about life, myself, and the people around me. I felt disappointed that I didn’t have this newfound knowledge earlier in my life so that my relationships could have been healthier from the start. But if I could pass on this valuable insight to my clients, that would be so satisfying!
MY APPROACH INTEGRATES SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF THERAPY
I integrate several different approaches into my therapy style; however, my foundation is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on changing negative and usually assumptive thoughts into more positive and truthful ones.
Our daily thoughts are so automatic that we aren’t always aware of what they are and how they impact how we feel from minute to minute.
Our thoughts are powerful, and I will help you become aware of yours and how to challenge their truth.
SO, ENOUGH ABOUT THERAPY
Let me bore you with some autobiographical info. I was born and raised in San Francisco, and from the time I was of school age, kids were trusting me with their biggest dilemmas.
“Jenny and Megan won’t let me play with them.”
“Michael didn’t invite me to his birthday party.”
“My brother ruined my favorite Barbie,” etc.
I suppose I was born to support people in their times of need. And I can remember liking the feeling of being helpful, even at five years old. Did it cause me to be included in all the birthday parties or get me invited over for endless playdates or make my experience as a kid more seamless? Hell no!
As I bartended my way through college, I continued offering a shoulder to cry or an ear to listen to whenever anyone needed it. This was really my first stint as a therapist when I look back at it. The only aspect of bartending I liked was listening to people’s problems and offering my emotional support.
My parents were both in the fashion industry, so I followed in their footsteps after college, working in different facets of the industry. Along the way, I met one of the wisest therapists I have ever known and was inspired to become a therapist myself. And here I am now, a fashion-loving relationship therapist.
AND WHEN I’M NOT THERAPIZING…
I am also a wife and a mom to three sons and a dog.
I also fanatically love music, movies, books, magazines, interior design, and teenage junk food.
When I’m not building up people’s relationships with themselves and others, I can be found creating playlists, knitting, browsing interior design books and daydreaming about Italy.
